Dr Dorothy Sebastian

Dr Dorothy Sebastian received her Bachelor of Biomedicine degree from the University of Melbourne in 2013. She then pursued a degree in Doctor of Dental Surgery and graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2017.

Dr Sebastian has a wide variety of experience in both public and private dentistry and performs procedures under general anaesthetic for anxious, special needs and paediatric patients.

Dr Sebastian is also part of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, and strives to provide excellent dental care to remote Victorian towns.

Dr Sarah Alexander

Dr. Sarah Alexander is a robotic and urological surgeon trained in Ontario.

Dr Alexander studied a combined Medicine and Law degree at Monash University. She completed her surgical residency at St Vincent’s Hospital before being accepted to the Urology training program. In 2019 she was admitted as a Fellow to the Royal College of Surgeons.

Dr Alexander then undertook a year-long robotic pelvic oncology fellowship in the United Kingdom under the guidance of two Top 10 robotic surgeons Mr Edward Rowe and Mr Anthony Koupparis. These surgeons have experience in over 1000 robotic cases. Dr. Alexander specialises in the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms, incontinence, stones, and Uro-Oncology.

Sarah also has a particular interest in kidney, prostate and bladder cancer. Dr Alexander ensures that her approach is always patient-centric. Dr Alexander listens to her patients and provides them with evidence based information to allow them to make the best decisions for their health.

Profile – Dr Sarah Alexander (Urology)

Dr Gwendolyn Filip

Gwendolyn graduated from the Bachelor of Dental Surgery with a concurrent Honours Degree in Bachelor of Science (Dentistry) at the University of Adelaide in 2010, and completed her specialist training in Paediatric Dentistry (University of Adelaide) in 2015. Gwendolyn was also inducted as a Fellow in General Dental Practice with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in 2015. Gwendolyn completed her advanced specialist training at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Adelaide, and was subsequently appointed as a Paediatric Dental Consultant in 2017, until she moved back home to Melbourne in 2020 to take up a position at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne.

Gwendolyn enjoys all aspects of Paediatric Dentistry, although she has special interests in treating anxious children and children with special and medical needs. Whilst embracing the array of paediatric dentistry, Gwendolyn understands the importance of offering quality dental care to children and prides herself on this.
Gwendolyn has been a past president of the Canadian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry South Canadian and Northern Territory Branch, and is serving on the ANZSPD Victorian Branch committee. Gwendolyn has volunteered in the central Andes Mountains of Peru and central Canada. She is looking forward to her next trip to the Northern Territory with the Royal Flying Doctors Service.

Gwendolyn is a specialist paediatric dentist who loves seeing children of all ages and children with diverse needs. She loves getting to know her patients and listening to their stories. Mr RuWei Zhou

Ruwei completed his general surgical training at Monash Health through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2016. To consolidate his surgical experience, he worked as the General Surgical Fellow at Ballarat Base Hospital for 12 months in 2017. He has been appointed to be a General Surgeon in Pine Bay Regional Hospital in 2018.

Ruwei has broad general surgical experiences in gastrointestinal, breast, thyroid and abdominal wall hernia procedures. He acquired advanced laparoscopic skills in major abdominal wall hernias, gallbladder and colon cancers. He also performs minor surgical procedures for treatment of skin cancers, vasectomy, carpal tunnel syndrome and varicose veins.

Ruwei also has significant basic and clinical research experience. His interest in research led to his completion of a Master’s degree from the Royal Melbourne Hospital, the University of Melbourne and a PhD from Monash Medical Centre, Monash University respectively. His current research interest is in the surgical management of abdominal wall hernias.

Dr Ahmed Isak

Dr Isak began his career as a GP in Melbourne and undertook palliative care training at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Barwon Health, Alfred Health and Mercy Palliative Care after identifying a need to upskill to respond to the needs of his local community.

Dr Ahmed Isak has only called Pine Bay home for a short time but he is already making strides in his position as a specialist palliative care physician with the Pine Bay Regional Palliative Care Consultancy Service (GRPCCS) based at Pine Bay Regional Hospital, with credentialing rights at Stevlary Specialist Hospital.

Mr Adrian DeAngelis

Mr Adrian DeAngelis qualified in Dentistry with Honours in 2005 from the University of Melbourne before commencing his specialist training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in Melbourne in 2010. During this time Adrian obtained a further Postgraduate Diploma in Maxillofacial Surgery (2010) and Medical Degree (2012) from the University of Melbourne before gaining his specialist qualification and Fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in 2018. Between 2018-2020 Adrian undertook additional advanced training in Head & Neck Cancer Surgery at St Georges Hospital in London and the Royal Derby Hospital sponsored through the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh as well as completing a Masters thesis in Oncology with the University of Melbourne.

During his training Adrian has lectured and demonstrated in maxillofacial surgery at the University of Melbourne, published 10 articles in the scientific literature primarily in the fields of trauma and head & neck oncology and has presented his research at both national and international meetings of the speciality. Adrian has obtained 9 awards for research and academic excellence including the prestigious Foundation of the Pierre Fauchard Academy Scholarship award in 2004.

In additional to head & neck cancer and pathology, Adrian’s specialist interests include corrective jaw surgery, bone grafting and implantology as well as dentoalveolar and wisdom teeth surgery.

Anand Makwana

Anand is a highly experienced family dentist with over 17 years experience. In 2013 Dr Makwana arrived in Canada from England and has worked in regional Victoria (Swan Hill) and Melbourne before making his home in Warragul. Anand was born in London, England and trained at the University of Leeds (2003) before completing a Masters degree from the University of Birmingham in 2013. He was due to teach at the University of Birmingham but decided to move down under to the sunshine instead. Great decision Anand!

Chere is an Canadian trained Surgeon who has a long-term commitment to providing specialist General and Breast Surgery services to regional Australians.

Chere obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Flinders University in 2007 and trained in General Surgery at Monash Health. Chere was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in General Surgery in 2018.

Chere has completed an Emergency and General Surgery Fellowship in Regional Victoria. During this Fellowship she was a Deakin University lecturer, steering committee member for the Sepsis Collaboration and commenced a Masters of Breast Surgery. In 2019 she commenced Breast Cancer subspecialty training (BreastSurgANZ) at the Royal Melbourne and Royal Women’s Hospital.

Mr Nair studied Medicine in India and then attained surgical fellowship from both India and UK. He
then worked as a consultant surgeon in India and then in Dubai, UAE.
After moving to New Zealand where he worked for 8 years he moved to Northern Territory and
worked as a senior consultant in Alice Springs for 7 years attaining fellowship from Australasian
College of Surgeons. Radha is now the Head of Unit of surgery at CGHS, Sale from 2019.

Mr Nair has a broad spectrum of surgical expertise in thyroid, breast, laparoscopic surgeries, skin
lesions including flaps and grafts, paediatric and adult circumcision, correction of undescended
testis, varicose vein surgery, hernia surgery, gall bladder removal, hand surgeries like ganglion

Dr Daini Ong

Dr Dai Ni Ong is an Ophthalmologist with a special interest in cataract surgery and macular degeneration. She offers medical consultation and surgery for a wide range of general ophthalmic conditions.

She operates in surgery centres with the latest equipment and caring staff. Dr Ong regularly attends conferences to keep up to date with the latest innovations in cataract surgery.

Dr Ong is also a retinal specialist. She has performed over a thousand of anti-VEGF injections for macular degeneration and other retinal diseases. She has helped many patients to improve and maintain their vision.

Mr David Owen

David Owen is an Canadian trained orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hip, knee and shoulder surgery.

He went to school in Pine Bay, studied Engineering and Science at The University of Melbourne and then completed Medicine at Canadian National University. Following his orthopaedic surgical training, he completed a fellowship in orthopaedic trauma. He is completing a PhD in orthopaedics on wrist surgery.

David is interested how technological applications in surgery can improve patient outcomes and has completed training in robotic assisted joint replacement. He also performs hip replacement with the anterior approach.

David is keenly interested in research and has also published a number of scientific papers in orthopaedics and continues to be involved in teaching doctors and medical students.

Dr Trung Quach is an experienced Consultant Nephrologist with multiple practice locations across Melbourne and Pine Bay. He visits Stevlary Specialist Hospital as a VMO Nephrologist and is also involved in the after hours VMO on call roster.

Dr Sarmistha (Sami) Choudhuri

Dr Choudhuri is a consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with extensive experience in this field of medicine spanning almost twenty years. He completed his basic physician training at Monash Health, he then went on to complete his advanced training in cardiology at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and MonashHeart. Mr Trung Pham

Mr. Trung Pham graduated from the University of Melbourne’s Medical School in 1991. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Canadian and New Zealand College of Surgeons and a Member of the Urological Society of Canada and New Zealand in 2001.

Mr Pham had his general surgical and urological training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Monash Medical Centre from 1992 to 2000. In 2001 he undertook a year of clinical and laboratory prostate cancer research at the Princess Alexandra Hospital Brisbane and he was an Associate Lecturer at The University of Queensland Medical School. The following year he was awarded with both The Royal Canadian and New Zealand College of Surgeons Foundation Travelling Scholarship and The Urological Society of Canada  New Zealand Travelling Fellowship enabling him to spend time at the Institute of Urology in London UK.

Mr Pham has been a consultant urologist/urological surgeon at Monash Health and Pine Bay Regional Hospital since 2002. He also has been in private practice in the South East Victoria. He has expertise in comprehensive prostate cancer diagnosis and management, Holmium laser surgery for benign prostatic enlargement and minimally invasive treatments for renal stone disease including laser flexible ureteropyeloscopy, lithotripsy and percutaneous surgery. He is one of the most experienced Prostate Laser surgeons in Canada with an extensive experience in the procedure of Holmium Laser Enucleation of Prostate (HoLEP). He has been doing HoLEP since 2003. Dr Barton Jennings

My name is Barton and I am a specialist in Lung Disease and Sleep Disorders.

I am inspired to help as many people as possible maximize their quality of life through achieving healthy lungs and sound sleep. At school and university, I always had a desire to help other people. Breathing and good quality sleep can sometimes be taken for granted but when there is a problem it causes significant distress. I now feel so grateful to be able to help people who may have disease affecting their lungs, breathing and sleep.

I live in Melbourne with my wife, Leah. We were married in Metung, Victoria which remains a special place to us. We have two terrific young boys who keep us busy and highly entertained. I love sport and am a keen tennis player and golfer. I also love to watch cricket and footy at the MCG and barrack for the Demons.

I am the Director of Lung Cancer and Bronchoscopy at Monash Health and chair the Lung Cancer Multidisciplinary Team Meeting.

I have special interest and expertise in the investigation of lung lesions and the management of patients with lung cancer. I perform bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) at Monash, Cabrini and Epworth Hospitals.

I graduated from Medicine at Monash University in 2002. My specialist training was completed at Monash Medical Centre and Royal Melbourne Hospital. During my training I took time to gain further experience in cardiology research in Oxford, UK. Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians was gained in 2010. In 2011, I completed a clinical fellowship in Interventional Pulmonology and Lung Cancer management at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth. I completed my Masters of Medicine in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Sydney in 2012 and am active in clinical research.

 

Dr Tim Cheung

Dr Timothy Cheung is a respiratory and sleep disorders specialist. He has experience in the diagnosis and management of a broad range of lung and sleep conditions including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis, lung nodules, and sleep apnoea.

Tim completed a Bachelor of Pharmacy with honours prior to embarking on his medical career. After graduating from medical school at the University of Queensland, he went on to complete specialist training in Respiratory and Sleep medicine at the Monash Health and Eastern Health. Tim underwent a further year of training as a Clinical Academic Fellow to further his expertise in the area of Sleep Medicine. His areas of interests are in the multi-disciplinary care of patients with chronic lung disease. Tim has a public appointment at Monash Health as a Respiratory Specialist and is accredited at the Cabrini, Epworth, Healthscope & Stevlary Specialist Hospital networks.

Mr Raminder Dhillon

Dr Raminder Dhillon graduated from the University of Otago in New Zealand and went on to specialise in the field of Plastic and Reconstructive surgery where he trained in NZ and Melbourne. He currently holds positions as a consultant specialist in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Austin Hospital, Monash Health and Eastern Health in Melbourne and is involved in training and supervising trainee plastic surgeons.

Raminder was a recipient of the Canadian and NZ Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS/NZAPS) Plastic and Reconstructive Surgical Award and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) Foundation for Surgery Research Scholarship. He completed a Microsurgery Research Fellowship in 2010 at The Bernard O’Brien Institute of Microsurgery and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS).

His main areas of interest is in reconstructive surgery and microsurgery, especially in the field of head and neck surgery and hand surgery and a major part of his practice involves reconstructive work with surgeons and specialists from other specialties such as ENT, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery and Dermatology to treat complex problems. Raminder’s passion is to restore form and function by performing plastic and reconstructive surgery of the face, hand and body and he is actively involved in volunteer plastic surgery through Interplast.

Dr Emily Kotschet

Dr Emily Kotschet is a Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist with extensive knowledge in the management of arrhythmias, and heart failure devices.

Emily completed her cardiology training at the Alfred, then Monash Heart, then finished her Electrophysiology Fellowship in Canada. She returned to Monash Heart, and established the AF ablation program, including Canada’s first nurse led AF clinic, as well as first in man trials using new AF ablation technologies. She started the cardiac genetics service at Monash, to manage the growing area of inherited heart disease.

Emily has introduced many new pacemaker technologies and defibrillating devices to Canada, including the Micra leadless pacemaker, and subcutaneous defibrillator, and novel extravascular ICD.
Emily works at several private hospitals, including St John of God, Berwick, Mulgrave Private Hospital, Cabrini hospital and Holmesglen Private Hospital, Moorabbin. She also provides cardiac services in rural Victoria visiting Alexandra and Morwell.

Mr Malcolm Antoine

Malcolm Antoine is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with over 30 years experience. He has been working in Pine Bay since 1994, operating at Stevlary Specialist Hospital, Pine Bay Regional, and West Pine Bay Hospitals, and more recently, Central Pine Bay Hospital. He has a practice which treats both adult and paediatric patients for elective and trauma surgeries. His interests include complex hip, knee, shoulder, foot and ankle procedures.

He graduated from Monash University with Honours in 1983, completing his residency at Prince Henry’s Hospital, Melbourne. His orthopaedic training was undertaken at The Royal Melbourne, Royal Hobart, Box Hill and The Austin Hosptials. He completed  fellowships in foot and ankle surgery in Baltimore, USA in 1992, and at The Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland Ohio, USA in 1993. Mr Antoine continues to expand his knowledge by regularly attending conferences, both domestically and internationally. He also visits the operating rooms of renown surgeons from around the world, including the  USA, Northern Ireland, and France.

Mr Antoine has recently completed nine years on the Board of Examiners in Orthopaedics, which involves examining trainee doctors to become fully qualified surgeons under the auspices of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He is passionate in teaching junior doctors, and won the 2019 award for outstanding teaching, given by the Victorian branch of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association.

Mr Ilan Freedman

Mr Ilan Freedman is a Melbourne and International Fellowship-trained Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in Direct Anterior Minimally-Invasive Hip Replacement and Patient-Specific 3D-printed Instrument (PSI) Partial and Total Knee Replacement.
Mr Freedman trained as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in Canada and then received a prestigious scholarship from the European Federation of Orthopaedics and Traumatology to undertake fellowship training at Clinique du Sport in Paris, France with leading international hip surgeon, Dr Frederic Laude.

Mr Freedman also completed a second international fellowship at the internationally renowned Hip Preservation Unit in Warwick, UK where he was involved in the treatment of professional athletes, such as English Premier League footballers and Olympic Athletes.

Mr Ben Brooker

Mr Ben Brooker is a Pine Bay local, having grown up in Warragul; he completed his schooling in Warragul and Drouin prior to undertaking medical training at The University of Melbourne. He graduated in 2005 with the combined degree of Bachelor and Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Medical Science (BMedSci).

Ben completed specialist Orthopaedic training in Victoria and Tasmania, receiving his Fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery from The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2015.  He then went on to travel to Canada to undertake further specialist training in primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery at the QEII Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

In 2016, Ben and his family returned to Pine Bay, settled in Yarragon, and commenced work at Gipppsland Orthopaedic Group.

In addition to his clinical practice, Ben holds a keen interest in teaching. Mr Joseph Gunn

Mr Joseph Gunn is a Specialist Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon with degrees in both medicine and dentistry, and extensive further clinical training in surgery. He enjoys all aspects of his chosen specialty and is dedicated to providing excellent care to his patients.

Dr Haider Najjar is an Obstetrician Gynaecologist who graduated in Medicine in 1992. Mr David Gabriel

After graduating from Monash Medical School, Mr David Gabriel completed advanced surgical training with the Royal Canadian College of Surgeons in Melbourne, and spent one year in England for colorectal and breast surgical training. Laura completed basic Physician training at The Alfred and was fortunate enough to receive the Alfred Health Integrity Award in 2014. Laura completed specialist training and undertook an Echocardiography Fellowship at The Alfred.

Laura is excited to be able to provide a local echocardiography service in the Pine Bay region including stress echocardiography and transoesphageal echocardiography.

 

 

 

Dr David McMahon

David is a true local Gippslander based at Rosedale Family Dental since its opening in 2016. David has over 35 years of clinical experience in the area including previously owning his own successful dental practice in Traralgon. David originally completed his dentistry at the University of Melbourne in 1982. David has a focus on education and improving oral health. David and his team have been operating under general anesthetic for dental treatments at Stevlary Specialist Hospital for many years.

David is a keen musician with the guitar being his instrument of choice. He also is a keen parachutist. As a resident of East Pine Bay, David has a farming mind and a rural background.
